TCS NQT Interview Experience

The TCS NQT interview experience for 2024 included several rounds, as shared by students, to assess both technical and soft skills. The process began with a written test divided into Foundation and Advanced rounds, with TCS NQT questions covering Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Ability. While the Foundation round was medium in difficulty, the Advanced section presented more challenging problems, especially in coding and analytical reasoning.

Round 1: Foundation Section

Based on students' overall experience, the Foundation Section focused on assessing essential skills in Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Ability. Most found the quantitative part challenging, while verbal and logical parts were rated as easier to medium in difficulty.

Sample Questions for Foundation Section:

  1. Vijay has 70 white and 710 black chess pieces. He must distribute these pieces between two boxes such that neither box is empty. To maximize the probability of randomly picking a white piece, how many pieces will be in the box with the larger number of pieces?
  2. A flight from Kolkata to Chennai has 3 stops in between. At each stop, half of the passengers get down. If there are 5 passengers left when the flight reaches Chennai, how many passengers were there when the flight started from Kolkata?
  3. Fill in the blanks with suitable options given below:
During the debate, one candidate managed to _____ his opponent's arguments effectively, gaining the upper hand.
    Options:
    A. Reiterate
    B. Counter
    C. Support
    D. Concur
  4. Arrange the sentences in the correct order:
A: This has led to a surge in demand for online education platforms.
B: The COVID-19 pandemic forced schools and universities to close their physical campuses.
C: Educators had to quickly adapt to teaching remotely, often with little prior experience.
D: As a result, traditional teaching methods have been challenged, and new approaches are being explored.
    Options:
    A. BCAD
    B. BACD
    C. ABCD
    D. CBDA
  5. G is the mother of H. G has only two children. H is the sister of I. I is the son of J. K is the grandson of J. L is the father of K. How is L related to H?
  6. Predict the next number in the series:
    42, 120, 210, 380, ?

Round 2: Advanced Section

The Advanced Section included Advanced Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and Coding, with students finding it tougher than the Foundation round. Coding involved three problems; one was easy, while the other two required extensive programming practice and DSA knowledge. Overall, this section was more challenging across all parts.

Sample Questions for Advanced Section

  1. In how many different ways can seven team members be lined up if two of them, Vikram and Saurabh, insist on not standing next to each other?

  2. A gardener had several shrubs to plant in rows. At first, he tried to plant 8, then 12, and then 16 in a row but he always had 3 shrubs left with him. On trying 7 shrubs he was left with none. Find the total number of shrubs.

  3. Xi and Yi are siblings. Si has two children and he is the son of Di, who is the father-in-law of Ji. Ji has only one son. Yi is not the granddaughter of Di. How is Xi related to Di?

Sample Problems for Coding Section

  1. A chef has N ingredients to distribute among three dishes such that exactly one dish gets the maximum number of ingredients among all three, and each dish gets at least one ingredient. Calculate the total number of ways to distribute N ingredients among the three dishes.

  2. In a college where 250 students attended the test only 20-30 got cleared in the first round and called for the interview, 5+ students for prime, 15+ students for digital, and 5+ students for Ninja. This might vary across colleges depending on the quality of the student and the training given to the students.

Round 3: Technical Interview

In the technical interview, most students reported receiving questions on programming basics, DSA, and topics related to their projects and technologies used. Some were also given programming questions and puzzles, expected to solve them with pen and paper or explain the logic. Below are some sample interview questions.

  1. What is the object-oriented programming (OOP) concept?
  2. What is encapsulation?
  3. How does data abstraction differ from encapsulation?
  4. How can you implement encapsulation in programming?
  5. What are classes and objects?

Round 4: HR Interview

Most students felt that the HR round was the easiest of all, where they got basic attitude check questions and questions like why TCS, willingness to shift from one domain to another, and relocating if needed, etc.
